CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA COLLECTION This weekend we take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Many people in Latin America and the Caribbean lack access to church programs and ministries because of rising secular culture, rugged rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers. Your generosity enables our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean to share in the life of the Church and grow closer to Christ. Please be generous in the special collection!
COLECTA IGLESIA EN AMÉRICA LATINA ¡Este fin de semana retomamos la Colecta para la Iglesia en América Latina! Muchas personas en América Latina y el Caribe carecen de acceso a los programas y ministerios de la iglesia debido al aumento de la cultura secular, el terreno rural accidentado y la escasez de ministros. Su generosidad permite a nuestros hermanos y hermanas de América Latina y el Caribe compartir la vida de la Iglesia y acercarse más a Cristo. ¡Por favor, sea generoso en la colección especial!
Presentation of the Lord February 02, 2025: On February 2, we observe the “Feast of the Presentation of the Lord,” honoring Jesus Christ’s presentation in the Temple as a young child. Mary and Joseph honor this tradition, as Luke 2:22-24 describes: When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,” and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Simeon, a devout and upright man, had been told by the Lord he would meet the Messiah before his death. When Jesus comes to the Temple, we see the fulfillment of this prophecy. Simeon and the prophetess Anna, acting as representatives of the Old Covenant” – recognize Jesus’ Lordship as Messiah in this culmination of their watchful waiting. When Simeon receives Jesus, he blesses him, and prophesies Jesus’ future as Savior, proclaiming him the Light of the world. We should also reflect on the gift of consecrated life. While the momentary satisfaction of selfish living ultimately leads to emptiness, living a life of holiness, dedicated to God’s service, will give true contentment and peace. And while worldly life soon leaves our hands and hearts empty, life in Jesus fills us with peace to the very end, as in the Gospel, where Simeon and Anna come happily to the sunset of their lives with the Lord in their arms and joy in their hearts.
Presentación del Señor 02 de febrero de 2025: El 2 de febrero, observamos la "Fiesta de la Presentación del Señor", en honor a la presentación de Jesucristo en el Templo cuando era un niño pequeño. AMERICAN CATHOLIC WINTER TRADITION; Traditionally we, Catholics celebrate Candlemas on Feb 2nd. The 40th day after Christmas. According to the Scripture a Jewish boy is offered in the Jerusalem temple after 40 days of purification (Luke2/22-24, Ex13/1-2) this we call it The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple by Mary and Joseph. If the Candlemas Day (Feb. 2nd) be is SUNNY and BRIGHT the Winter will show its might. If the Candlemas day be CLOUDY and GRAY Winter will pass away.
TRADICIÓN CATÓLICA ESTADOUNIDENSE DE INVIERNO; Tradicionalmente, los católicos celebramos la Candelaria el 2 de febrero. El día 40 después de Navidad. Según la Escritura, se ofrece un niño judío en el templo de Jerusalén después de 40 días de purificación (Lucas 2:22-24, Éxodo 13:1-2) esto lo llamamos La Presentación del Señor en el Templo por María y José. VCCW - Ladies - our next meeting dates: Feb. 5, March 4, April 2, May 7, June 4. The March date is the only one that falls on a Tuesday, since Ash Wednesday is March 5th.

CONSECRATION TO JESUS THROUGH ST. JOSEPH During this year of Eucharistic Mission, Bishop Rice invites all men of the diocese to strengthen their relationship with Jesus by making a total consecration to Jesus through St. Joseph. Using the book, Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father, by Donald Calloway, MIC, men will begin reading the daily reflections and prayers at home on Feb. 15, 2025 and complete the Prayer of Consecration on the Feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 2025. Be sure to order your book now through DeSales Catholic Bookstore or your favorite book retailer so that you are ready to begin in February.
CONSAGRACIÓN A JESÚS A TRAVÉS DE SAN JOSÉ Durante este año de Misión Eucarística, el Obispo Rice invita a todos los hombres de la diócesis a fortalecer su relación con Jesús haciendo una consagración total a Jesús a través de San José. JUBILEE YEAR OF HOPE- The two cathedrals of the diocese, St. Agnes Cathedral, Springfield, and St. Mary of the Annunciation Cathedral, Cape Girardeau, are the designated locations for the Jubilee Year of Hope. In St. Mary Cathedral, to the front left, pilgrims may find an actual relic of the True Cross. In St. Agnes Cathedral, near the Blessed Sacrament, pilgrims will find a crucifix on display. As part of the Jubilee Year, those who participate in the sacrament of penance and reconciliation and attend Holy Mass along with the reception of Holy Communion within a 20-day period of visiting the cathedral—praying the Nicene or Apostles Creed, the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for the intentions of the Holy Father—may receive a plenary indulgence.
AÑO JUBILAR DE LA ESPERANZA- Las dos catedrales de la diócesis, la Catedral de Santa Inés, en Springfield, y la Catedral de Santa María de la Anunciación, en Cape Girardeau, son los lugares designados para el Año Jubilar de la Esperanza. En la Catedral de Santa María, al frente a la izquierda, los peregrinos pueden encontrar una reliquia real de la Vera Cruz.
