Quinceañera

Quinceañera

A quinceañera is a celebration of a 15th birthday that is common in Mexican cultures. This birthday is celebrated differently from any other as it marks the transition from childhood to young adulthood.

A quinceañera is a beautiful and significant celebration in the Catholic Church, marking a young woman’s 15th birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthood. Rooted in faith and tradition, this ceremony typically includes a special Mass where the quinceañera renews her commitment to God and receives blessings for her future. Surrounded by family and loved ones, she offers gratitude to God for His guidance and dedicates herself to living a life of faith, hope, and service. This sacred milestone reflects the values of family, community, and spiritual growth, all at the heart of Catholic life.

Typically a reception is held after the mass, where symbolic presentations can happen such as the placement of heeled shoes on her feet, to indicate that she is ready for womanhood. Traditionally, the dance portion of the quince includes a choreographed -type dance that is prepared and is considered one of the main events of the evening. Toasts are often offered, and sometimes the cutting of  cake is also involved.

The requirements for having a Quinceanera in our parish are:

*You must be a registered member of the parish

*The celebrant needs to have received their first reconciliation and communion.

*20 hours of community service
